Interview: His Clancyness

A quick Q&A with Canadian/Italian artist His Clancyness.

For those who don’t know, who is His Clancyness?
A dreamer that has lived in many cities, that lives and breathes the road with his best friends.

If you could describe the sound of His Clancyness in 3 words what would it be?
Pop Gone Wrong.

What/who are your influences?
Bowie, Can, Modern Lovers, Swell Maps, Guy Bourdin.

What kinds of things inspire you during the songwriting process?
Nothing inspires me more than travelling and photographs.

You recently released your début album ‘Vicious’; what was the recording process like and how did
it inform the sound of the album?
It was the first time we recorded as a band, live, so very different from previous things. This time we just bashed it out. It changes a lot, it made us want to write longer songs, so that we could get lost in them, lose track of time for the magic.

What is your live set-up like?
Samples, Noise Boxes, Drums, Percussion, Guitars, Bass, Long vocals.

If you could work/collaborate with anybody (dead or alive) who would it be?
Scott Walker.

Are there any other acts/artists you recommend people check out?
Bad Meds, Mazes, U.S. Girls, Husband.

What are His Clancyness’ upcoming plans?
The road becoming our chapel.
